MYOB Acumatica Implementation in Melbourne

A MYOB Acumatica implementation in Melbourne takes 2 to 5 months with an accredited partner. Which MYOB you need, what to ask, and what Victoria changes.

By Josh Craig, Managing Director, Auboros ·

A MYOB Acumatica implementation in Melbourne is a partner-run ERP project in four stages: design, build, test readiness and go-live. Most scopes take 2 to 5 months, and the fixed-scope FastStart program for wholesale distributors runs 12 weeks. MYOB introduces you to an accredited partner rather than delivering it itself. Auboros is listed on MYOB’s partner directory and delivers Melbourne and regional Victorian projects remotely from Brisbane.

At a glance

  • Who it is for: Melbourne and regional Victorian businesses with more than one entity, stock in more than one place, or twenty or more system users, weighing a MYOB Acumatica project against staying on MYOB Business or AccountRight
  • Problem it solves: Knowing which MYOB you are buying, how a Melbourne partner is chosen and quoted, and which Victorian payroll and leave rules the build has to carry
  • Platforms: MYOB Acumatica (called MYOB Advanced until MYOB rebranded it in 2024), including MYOB Acumatica Payroll
  • Typical cost: MYOB Acumatica licensing is quoted per named user through partners, not published; our MYOB Acumatica cost guide gives the indicative implementation ranges by scope
  • Typical timeline: 2 to 5 months for most scopes, per the same guide; 12 weeks on the fixed-scope MYOB FastStart for wholesale distribution program
  • Last verified: 20 October 2026 against the SRO Victoria payroll tax rates, the Victorian long service leave page, the Portable Long Service Authority and MYOB’s partner directory

Search for a MYOB implementation in Melbourne and the results split in two. Bookkeepers in Richmond, Dandenong and Geelong offer MYOB Business setup. ERP consultancies quote MYOB Acumatica projects. Each is an MYOB partner, in a different trade. One job is a fortnight of a bookkeeper’s time; the other runs for months and ends with a go-live date. This post is about the second kind, and about what Victoria changes.

Which MYOB do Melbourne businesses actually need?

MYOB sells two product families and uses the word “implementation” for both.

  • MYOB Business (Lite, Pro and AccountRight) is small business accounting software. Setup is a chart of accounts, bank feeds, payroll categories and some training, done by a bookkeeper in days.
  • MYOB Acumatica (formerly MYOB Advanced) is a cloud ERP for mid-sized businesses, sold per named user and implemented by accredited partners. General ledger, multi-entity consolidation, inventory, projects, manufacturing, payroll and CRM sit in one database. Setup is a project.

More than one trading entity, stock in more than one location, work-in-progress to track, or twenty or more users puts you in MYOB Acumatica territory. A single entity with a bookkeeper and a handful of staff belongs on MYOB Business.

How does a MYOB Acumatica implementation in Melbourne actually work?

MYOB does not usually run the project. Its implementation partner page says that once you settle on the platform, MYOB introduces you to a local accredited partner who gets you up and running. You can also go partner-first. Either way the partner scopes the work, quotes the licences and configures the system.

MYOB’s implementation overview lists four stages: design, build (you get a prototype), test readiness (migration verified, key staff trained), then go-live. Partners differ inside those stages: how much discovery happens before the price is fixed, whether migration from AccountRight or Exo is in the fixed fee, and whether go-live includes your first BAS (Business Activity Statement) and month-end.

Because the partner and the vendor are separate, you can change partners later without changing software. Several partners quote in Melbourne, so prices for the same scope land far apart until you force them onto one user list.

How long does a MYOB Acumatica implementation take in Melbourne?

Location does not move the timeline much. Scope does. Our cost guide puts finance only at 2 to 3 months, finance plus distribution at 3 to 4 months, and finance, distribution and manufacturing at 4 to 5 months. Distributors who fit the profile can take MYOB’s FastStart program, which fixes the timeline at 12 weeks; we deliver it in Queensland and other partners deliver it too. Our post on how long a MYOB Acumatica implementation takes walks through each stage.

What stretches a project is migration nobody owns, award interpretation settled after the build starts, and, in Victoria, the payroll tax and leave configuration below, which businesses with interstate staff tend to discover in week eight.

What is different about payroll and leave in Victoria?

The payroll layer is where a Melbourne build differs from a Brisbane one, and a partner from another state has to get it right on purpose.

Victorian payroll tax

The State Revenue Office (SRO) applies a 4.85% payroll tax rate above a $1,000,000 annual threshold, or $83,333 a month, from 1 July 2025 onward, with 1.2125% for eligible regional Victorian employers. The threshold is not flat: employers and groups with Australian taxable wages between $3,000,000 and $5,000,000 have the deduction phased out at 50%, and above $5,000,000 there is none. The mental health and wellbeing surcharge and the COVID-19 debt temporary surcharge together add 1% on the Victorian share of wages where national payroll exceeds $10 million, and 2% above $100 million, as at 20 October 2026.

A Melbourne head office with a Brisbane warehouse and a Sydney sales team gets three state calculations from one payroll. The system has to know which state each employee’s wages belong to from the first pay run. MYOB Acumatica Payroll gives you the inputs rather than the return: the Pay Activity Summary Report (MPPP6024) groups pay totals by branch, department and employee for any date range. Our Victorian payroll tax calculator runs the threshold, phase-out and rates on that figure. Federal reporting sits alongside through Single Touch Payroll.

Long service leave under the Long Service Leave Act 2018

Under Victoria’s Long Service Leave Act 2018, an employee can take long service leave, or be paid out unused leave when employment ends, after at least 7 years of continuous employment with one employer. Leave accrues at one week for every 60 weeks of continuous service, about 0.866 of a week a year, and covers full-time, part-time, casual, seasonal and certain fixed-term employees. The regulator is Workforce Inspectorate Victoria, known as Wage Inspectorate Victoria until 12 December 2025.

In MYOB Acumatica Payroll, legislated leave entitlements come pre-built in the default database, and anything else is configured on the Entitlements form (MP.PP.33.00) and linked to pay items. The design decision for a Victorian site is the accrual method and the entitlement date, because a casual with seven years of broken rosters has a real entitlement here. Our Victorian long service leave calculator works the weeks accrued and the dollar value from service dates, a check against what the system shows after migration.

Portable long service leave schemes

Community services, contract cleaning and security businesses have a third layer. The Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme started on 1 July 2019 and lets covered workers build entitlements on time in the industry rather than with one employer. Registration with the Portable Long Service Authority is compulsory, and its employer obligations page sets out the rest: register within 3 months, lodge a quarterly return with each covered worker’s hours, ordinary pay and leave taken, and pay a levy of 1.65% of ordinary pay for community services or 1.80% for contract cleaning and security, due within 14 days. Workers claim after 7 years of recognised service, and NDIS-funded community services employers have been covered since 1 January 2020.

For the ERP build, payroll has to report hours and ordinary pay per covered worker each quarter, and finance carries the levy as a recurring liability. Melbourne disability and aged care providers should put the quarterly return on the discovery agenda.

“Every Melbourne project we scope, the Victorian payroll conversation happens in the first workshop, not the eighth week. Payroll tax by state, the 60-week long service accrual and whether the portable scheme applies take twenty minutes to answer up front and three weeks to retrofit. We ask because we are not in Victoria, and that turns out to be a good habit.”

What should you ask a Melbourne MYOB partner before you sign?

Quotes are only comparable if every partner answers the same questions.

  • Quote the licences on my actual user list. Same names and roles to every partner, and ask which access tier each person gets. The user mix moves the number more than the headcount.
  • Which parts are fixed scope and which are time and materials? Ask for the out-of-scope list in writing.
  • Who moves the data, and how far back? Opening balances only, or two years of transactions? If you are moving from Xero or AccountRight to an ERP, migration is where most timelines slip.
  • Who configures payroll tax by state, long service leave and the portable scheme? If the answer is “your accountant”, check that your accountant knows.
  • Which days are on site in Melbourne? Get the number of on-site days written into the proposal.
  • Can I speak to a Victorian client of similar size? Someone who went live in the last year.

Does your partner need a Melbourne office?

Sometimes. Heavy change management across several sites, or sponsors who only engage in a room, favour consultants already in Melbourne. We say that as a Brisbane firm.

For finance-led projects on a cloud product, location matters less than it did. We are a MYOB Acumatica partner in Brisbane, listed on MYOB’s implementation partner directory, and we deliver in Melbourne the way we deliver in Sydney: discovery and design workshops by video, build and testing on screen, and on-site days for go-live week if you want them. We work across Queensland, NSW and Victoria on that model.

For distributors, MYOB’s FastStart program fixes the scope and the twelve-week timeline. We are an approved partner delivering it in Queensland, and other partners deliver it as well. Ask whether a fixed-scope program fits before you accept a bespoke quote.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who implements MYOB Acumatica in Melbourne?

Accredited MYOB Acumatica partners, not MYOB itself. MYOB's partner page says that once you settle on the platform, MYOB introduces you to a local accredited partner who scopes the project, quotes the licences and delivers the system. You can also engage a partner directly. Auboros is listed on MYOB's implementation partner directory and delivers Melbourne projects remotely from Brisbane, with on-site days for go-live if you want them.

How long does a MYOB Acumatica implementation take in Melbourne?

Most scopes take 2 to 5 months: finance only 2 to 3 months, finance plus distribution 3 to 4 months, and finance, distribution and manufacturing 4 to 5 months. Wholesale distributors that fit the FastStart profile can go live in 12 weeks on the fixed-scope program. Location does not change the timeline much; data migration, payroll configuration and multi-entity design do.

What is the difference between a MYOB Business setup and a MYOB Acumatica implementation?

MYOB Business (Lite, Pro and AccountRight) is small business accounting software that a certified bookkeeper sets up in days. MYOB Acumatica, called MYOB Advanced until 2024, is a cloud ERP for mid-sized businesses sold per named user and implemented by accredited partners over several months. If you have more than one entity, stock in more than one location, projects with work-in-progress or twenty or more users, you are in MYOB Acumatica territory.

Does MYOB Acumatica handle Victorian payroll tax and long service leave?

MYOB Acumatica Payroll gives you the inputs. Pay run reports grouped by branch give the Victorian wages figure for the SRO return, where the 4.85% rate applies above a $1,000,000 annual threshold from 1 July 2025 onward, and legislated leave entitlements come pre-built with custom entitlements configured on the Entitlements form. The Victorian accrual of one week per 60 weeks of service after 7 years, and the portable scheme for community services, cleaning and security, need to be set up deliberately during the build.

Can a Brisbane partner implement MYOB Acumatica in Melbourne?

Yes. On a cloud product, configuration, testing and most training happen on screen regardless of where the consultant sits. We run discovery and design workshops by video, build and test remotely, and travel to Melbourne for go-live week if you want someone in the room. A project with heavy on-floor change management across several sites may still be better served by a partner based in Melbourne, and we will say so in the first conversation.
